In the heart of rural Staffordshire, Alrewas Hayes is a Grade 2 listed wedding venue catering for 825 guests. To maximise their number of guests, the venue had erected a permanent marquee (without planning consent). David Tucker Associates was enrolled to justify the existence of the additional volume of 300 guests and the impact on the surrounding neighbourhood and local residents.
DTA studied the arrival patterns of guests prior to the marquee’s construction and undertook environmental statement appraisals of the impact; demonstrating firstly that there was safe access into the site; secondly that there was sufficient car parking on site; and finally, that the impact on the local residents was acceptable.
DTA agreed the above with the local authority and devised a localised signing strategy to ensure that wedding guests were predominantly taking a route which avoided part of the local residential area whilst retaining a picturesque entrance to the venue.
